Research Institute on Wisdom Oil & Gas Field of Chang’an University(RIWOF), grew out of Digital Oilfield Institute of Chang’an University which established in March 2005. It is an exclusive research institute in China on digitalization, intellectualization, wisdom oil and gas field throughout the theory, principle, method, technology and construction. RIWOG is composed of "three centers and one think tank" which namely data experiment and research center, brand techniques research and cultivation center, wisdom engineering construction and operation center, and think tank for wisdom oil and gas field.

Basic tenet: Inherit the researcher’s career of Digital Oilfield Institute of Chang’an University on the digital and intelligent construction of oil field; Continue to go along the basic research paths of digital, data, information, knowledge and wisdom; Transform and upgrade to take data, knowledge, and wisdom as key research contents; And closely integrated with oil and gas field enterprises in China, make much more efforts and contributions in researching on big data of oil and gas field and other areas.

The main achievements of RIWOF can be summarized as "two conferences and two systems". The two conferences are consist of Digital Oil Field International Academic Conference and International Specialist Forum & Brand Techniques Symposium on Wisdom Oil and Gas Field. The two systems are made up of theoretical system and technical system.

Since 2009, RIWOF held the Digital Oil Field International Academic Conference every two years, which was successfully held for six times with great influence in oilfield informatization construction, and now became a brand conference. In addition, RIWOF also successfully held two times of International Specialist Forum & Brand Techniques Symposium on Wisdom Oil and Gas Field, which is aiming at accelerating the research and development process of core technologies and products for making up the "short board", and then serve China’s development in digital economy and the construction of digital, intelligent, wisdom oil and gas fields as well as the multiple countries along "The Belt and Road".

On the one hand, during the probe of digital oilfield theory and principle, five monographs in “Digital Oilfield in China” series were written by RIWOG team and published, which comprehensively discussed the construction and development process of digital, intelligent oil and gas fields in China, built the theoretical model of digital, data, information, knowledge and wisdom, and also summarized the basic methods, basic path and modes of intelligent oil and gas field construction. On the other hand, in digital oilfield construction practice, technical system is gradually formed and applied in the digital, intelligent and wisdom oil and gas field construction, the more representative technologies included Oil field internet of things (OFIOT), Data specialist(Datist), Well specialist (Wellist), Reservoir specialist (Rsvrist) and Big data analysis specialist (B-Datist). Especially Data specialist (Datist) technology is widely applied in the earthquake, oil, energy, environmental protection and other areas, a landmark technology is energized in data management and data middle platform.

After digital oilfield construction in China has entered a new era, the "Double Carbon" goal and the "Digital Transformation" task are accelerating the reform and development process of oil and gas field enterprises in China, RIWOF will continue to hold the "two conferences", persevere in "two systems", never forget the beginning of heart, focus on oil & gas field research and construction, and meanwhile start a new journey of research for wisdom oil and gas reservoir and talent cultivation for digital engineering. For undergraduates and postgraduates which major in petroleum, RIWOG takes the lead in offering the advanced courses and experiments, such as oilfield IoT, oilfield data, big data and artificial intelligence. RIWOG expects to cultivate talents of petroleum science and technology for oilfield enterprises and makes more contributions to the construction and development of intelligent oil and gas fields in China.
